One of Canada’s most famous addicts is fast becoming better known on the dance floors across the country as DJ Erik Bouaziz.
Erik Bouaziz, who was a rich and successful nightlife entrepreneur living the life of a rock star at the age of 20 and addicted to drugs by 26, has returned to the party life but without the drugs.
It wasn’t until Erik was 32 that he got help for his addiction and after years in addiction rehab, he set up his own addiction clinic in 2010 in a bid to help people who were going through exactly what he had. Then in 2015 Erik launched a specialist clinic for 15 to 30-year-olds struggling with addiction. Erik went back to college to gain a diploma in addictions counselling before he set up his clinics.
Now the serial entrepreneur has taken his years of experience in the nightlife industry and his hobby to launch his own career as a DJ. Erik Bouaziz is now a sought-after DJ across Canada and the US.
The yoga enthusiast, who is known for running yoga and addiction retreats, is said to be one of the top users of a new sound wave in Canada and he has gathered thousands of listeners on his SoundCloud page.
Erik has taken his hobby to the next level and gone back to his entrepreneurial roots by teaming up with luminary Niels Dekker to launch an entertainment company and Erik is one of the biggest draws.
Erik is still very hands on with his clinics. He set them up to try to ease the burden on the public purse as the cost of healthcare and rehabilitation in North America rockets to $400 billion a year and make sure the vital support was there for those who needed it.
His proactive approach and real focus on finding the right team of specialists to run the clinics has led to their success. The Academy, the facility he set up for younger people and costs $30,000 for a 90-day program, has a client staff ratio of three to one. Erik says that this level of support is what makes the difference and that there was a lot of one on one counselling.
The other approach that has set Erik’s clinics aside from others is how he starts the rehabilitation process at home before the person suffering addiction even reaches the clinic. He said that by coaching the family to stage a carefully planned intervention, it helps the person needing rehab to feel loved and cared for, rather than dictated to. He said this approach was preventing addicts from walking out on their families and ending up on the streets.
