DeJuan DeBose, a veteran production assistant on three major screenplays, has announced an exciting new crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter for “A Little Bit Country,” a new feature screenplay created to express the point of view of diversity. A powerful film produced at a time of growing social challenge and unrest, “A Little Bit Country” shows viewers the intimate story of a small-town African American man struggling to find his place among growing cultural and racial differences.
In this feature screenplay, Darius, a small town educated African-American, moves back home to Ohio with intentions of living a simple life with friends and family. Introduced by a friend to a new, exciting experience with country line dancing, Darius soon discovers his newfound love for dancing is causing a rift between himself, his girlfriend, and his childhood friends. As confrontations abound, emotions, differences, and cultural uncertainties build, which illustrates the effects of divergent racial boundaries among friends and family. In the wake of social unrest and police brutality, these differences are only further drawn to light, leading Darius to feel increasingly out of place and longing for a sense of community and purpose.
A powerful film, “A Little Bit Country” shows that everything is not a race war. The story told is based on DeBose’s personal life experiences as observed through his personal lens and actual interest in country line dancing. A diverse individual, DeBose’s message shows that different cultures do not understand each other’s boundaries, and that a new point of view is needed for social and cultural diversity.
