LONGWOOD, Fla. – Nov. 9, 2020 – In a weekend of firsts, Matilda Castren earned her first professional win at the first-ever Mission Inn Resort & Club Championship Presented by Insurance Office of America (IOA) in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
Players battled for a $125,000 purse on the resort’s El Campeón course. This three-day Symetra Tour event was the very first to be hosted by Mission Inn Resort & Club — and the third to be sponsored by IOA in the 2020 competitive season.
“The relationship between IOA and the Symetra Tour runs deep,” said IOA Co-founder John Ritenour. “We’re so happy to have been able to present an entirely new opportunity to players this season.”
Castren took the lead right out of round one. After carding four birdies and one eagle, she finished with a 5-under par 68. Starting day two of the tournament on a high note, Castren maintained a steady lead to finish the second round with a three-shot lead. She entered day three ahead of the competition and finished 12 under overall.
“It’s been a tough year for a lot of people, and I think I can speak for all the players that we really appreciated that we can have a tournament come together like this one on such short notice,” said Castren. “The course is amazing, so it really worked out great for us and we really appreciate IOA and Mission Inn’s support.”
Thanks to her victory at Mission Inn Resort, Castren is now No. 15 in the Volvik Race for the Card. Her total season earnings currently sit at $20,707.
