Elk Grove, CA – February 25, 2021 – Two top coaches in the Elk Grove Unified School District hit home runs nationally and in the state in recognition for their excellent work and accomplishments. Mary Jo Truesdale was awarded the top honor of National Girls Softball Fast Pitch Coach of the Year for 2019-2020, and Bryan Kilby was chosen as one of California’s Interscholastic Federation Sac-Joaquin Section Model Coaches of the Year for the 2020-21 school year. Both Elk Grove Unified coaches their excellent abilities and involvement in the community.
As the founding head softball coach at Sheldon High school in the District, Mary Jo Truesdale has over 40 years of combined experience mentoring athletes and refining the program. Beyond her coaching duties, Truesdale is involved in various organizations in the community for athletics, and this unique NFHS award brings light to the outstanding work and service she has provided. For her work leading the sport, shaping her athletes, and contributing in a positive way to the community, NFHS member state associations chose to recognize Truesdale.
Bryan Kilby is the first baseball coach from Elk Grove Unified to win the Model Coach Award. Chosen for exemplifying the qualifying traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship, on and off the field, Coach Kilby stands among other model coaches. Kilby will represent the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section at the State level. He will be one of ten coaches nominated from across California to potentially be chosen as a CIF State Model Coach of the Year for his work as the Franklin High school baseball coach.
