The IB curriculum is taking the educational world by storm, thanks to its unique programmes and its multidimensional benefits. IB Scholars is an IB education centre in Dubai, owned and run by Dr Anil Khare, IB specialist in Dubai, brilliant Mathematician and a highly regarded career counsellor in Dubai. Here is an excerpt from the interview in which he provided clarity on the IB, and his motivation behind setting up IB Scholars, a one-of-a-kind institute that has grown to be a leader in IB education in Dubai.
What is IB Scholars all about?
IB Scholars is a platform that offers IB students bespoke year-round tutoring, mentoring, writing support and career counselling in Dubai to help them excel in their IB education. A school away from school, IB Scholars provides an environment for students where they are encouraged to think smart and acquire a global perspective, as demanded by the IB.
Tell us more about the IB curriculum.
The IB stands for International Baccalaureate. It is a curriculum founded in 1968, in Geneva, Switzerland. It is designed to encourage individuals who are well-rounded and ready to handle challenges posed by the world independently with an optimistic attitude. There are three IB programmes – PYP, MYP and IBDP, offered at different levels, that develop self-motivated and purpose-driven individuals with the requisite skills and knowledge to grow and contribute towards a better tomorrow.
Is the IB accepted all over the world?
Yes, the IB is accepted worldwide, with about 5400 affiliated schools in 159 countries that offer 7400 IB programmes. The IB is also recognised by universities all over the world. In fact, an IB graduate has higher chances of getting accepted into the top universities including the IVY LEAGUE as compared to students who have been educated in other curricula.
How many certified IB schools are there in the UAE?
In the UAE, there are about 53 IB schools, out of which 48 offer the IB Diploma. The first school in the UAE opened in the year 1992.
In your opinion, what are the advantages of doing IB?
The benefits of doing IB are many. One of the main advantages is on a personal level. The students are exposed to a well-rounded curriculum that opens up their minds and promotes independent, high-level thinking, which is of paramount importance the world over. Apart from academics, the IB encourages curiosity, confidence as well as empathy among young people. Character development is what sets the IB apart. The other benefits are better chances of being accepted into reputed universities, possibilities for better jobs with higher incomes, and higher chances of finding employment in scientific, technical and professional sectors.
What are PYP, MYP and IBDP?
PYP is an IB programme designed for students between 3 to 12 years. It stands for Primary Years Programme. According to the IB, the programme develops young minds into compassionate and active members in their learning journey.
The IB MYP which is short for Middle Years Programme is tailored for students between 11 and 16, or from grades 6 to 10. The student-centric programme develops positive learning habits, self-motivation and a strong base in academic subjects.
IBDP is an IB Diploma, a 2-year course for 16–19-year-olds. It is a challenging programme that makes students ready for success in university education as well as in their careers and life.
How does a student choose the 6 subjects for his IBDP?
The main tip that I can give for subject selection is to go for subjects that the student enjoys working on and solving challenging tasks in. The subject they find to be the most enjoyable can become their HL subject. For instance, if the student enjoys Math, then an HL in Math would be perfect for the student. They can go for SL in less preferred subjects. I agree that subject selection can be a little difficult for students. Please feel free to visit our website to learn more. I will be more than happy to help students to decide on the right subjects to choose as per their capabilities and personal interests.
How is IB Scholars beneficial to IB students?
IB Scholars is an institute that operates solely for IB students. It is where the student is understood and their educational needs are met. Whether they need help in having a better grasp over their subjects, or in working on their many challenging assignments or acquiring better grades, IB Scholars supports them completely. The support does not end there. IB Scholars also provide career counselling, university selection counselling and admission help for its students.
