From a poor background in Jamaica, Wesrok was motivated by the music of Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. Based on this influence, during the pandemic he released his single with Def Jam artist Masicka, he blended country and western music with Jamaica’s gritty dancehall music and the song was a hit.
It was producer Troyton who encouraged Wesrok to collaborate with dancehall artiste Masicka, and the reggae-country singer said he never knew what to expect. He was, however, pleasantly surprised when the song, Try to Hold Me, soared to number one on the iTunes Top 100 Reggae Chart on September 29, 2022. “During the recent pandemic, I felt the need to explore my passion for music. I started to write songs about my life. Then started recording,” Wesrok said. Try to Hold Me was released on October 15, 2021. Wesrok said the accomplishment has boosted his career. “This is the cream of the crop. The true test.”
This has placed Wesrok in the world. “What more can I ask for?” he said. Wesrok was born Percival Buddan in Bog Walk, St Catherine, and the retired superintendent of police said he was inspired by the sound, lyrical aptitude, and style of country music legends Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, and Marty Robbins. This is what inspired him to become an artiste following his departure from the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
Wesrok will be busy this Easter performing at the Ocho Rios Kite Festival and St. Mary Kite Festival. His other hits are Born as Winner and a cover of She believes in Me by Kenny Rogers.
