SkillFusion to Combat EV Charger Reliability with Certification Pathways and Largest Database of Skilled Workers
The company is ensuring a talent pool to operate and maintain electric vehicle chargers for peak performance.

Four industry veterans unite to tackle the electric vehicle industry’s most significant hurdle in scaling charging infrastructure efficiently and alleviating charge anxiety for drivers

OCTOBER 25, 2023 – Detroit, MI – As the electric vehicle market surges, reliable charging infrastructure is more critical than ever.  SkillFusion, a cutting-edge customer success platform for electric vehicle service equipment (EVSE) operations and maintenance (O&M) providers, has launched to meet the growing demand for skilled service workers to increase EV chargers’ reliability.

The founding executive team consists of recognized leaders across the electrification, skill development, and O&M sectors, including:

  • Rue Phillips – Co-founder and President:  An accomplished cleantech entrepreneur with more than two decades of EV leadership, also the host of the “EV Chat” podcast.

  • Elaina Farnsworth – Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer:  An industry leader in developing training and certification programs within the mobility sector.

  • Alisyn Malek – Chief Operating Officer:  An automotive tech entrepreneur and trusted voice in mobility and policy.

  • Dave Packard – Chief Strategy Officer:  A pioneer in transportation electrification and a recognized leader in EV charging infrastructure, network connectivity, and utility EV infrastructure incentive programs.

“The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration’s National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program is working to fund a large-scale deployment of EV charging infrastructure across the country, which is required to maintain a 97% operational uptime. This is a tall order, in and of itself,” said Phillips. “However, combined with the skilled labor shortage already affecting operations and maintenance, scaling the country’s charger network will create unprecedented stress on the industry unless we can train and certify more workers.”

SkillFusion’s groundbreaking approach provides charger-agnostic skill enhancement and certification, creating a proprietary database of certified workers available to service the country’s growing EV charger network. The program developed by SkillFusion covers the full spectrum of skills needed to support charger operations, including licensed electricians and technicians specializing in technical support, networking and communications, cybersecurity, and more.

“SkillFusion is in an unique position to connect EV charger operations and maintenance providers with skilled talent that ensures the workforce installing, maintaining, and operating chargers possess the appropriate training, licenses, and certifications needed for safe operations,” said Farnsworth. “With this influx of skilled and certified talent, we are building a work-ready labor pool that will fuel the rapid growth of the EV charger network and allow O&M to scale faster and more efficiently.”

SkillFusion is curating the most comprehensive set of competency training and credentials for electrical and non-electrical workers and partnering with other certification and credentialing providers to build the most robust training and certification platform specially-designed for the EVSE sector. Through their O&M portal, EVSE O&M providers will be able to verify certification levels of workers and ensure service providers can fulfill service obligations, thus reducing charger downtime and increasing charger reliability.

“We are defining the scope and capacity of an EV service technician and a fully trained and certified electrician and fusing this talent pool with endless opportunities by certifying that they are work ready,” said Phillips.

With months of extensive research, planning, and development, SkillFusion’s growing team of technical specialists and instructional designers is ready to lead this electrifying change in the industry.

In November, SkillFusion will host an informational webinar discussing the critical issues of EV infrastructure maintenance and uptime and ways to rapidly expand a certified workforce that can match the growth seen in the charging market. Later this year, SkillFusion will launch its first certification program for a broad range of skilled labor in the EVSE sector. For more information, visit SkillFusion.com
