A leading Black Advocacy group in Alberta, Afri-Can Alliance International is set to relaunch their program center in Edmonton following a recent partnership with the Government of Canada.
Mr. Bola Badmus, the founder and program director, spoke briefly about the completion of ACAI’s Center of Excellence project at a Community development summit. In his words, “We are pleased to acknowledge the Government of Canada’s $82 million funding support to improve Black-led organizations’ workplaces through the Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC)’s Supporting Black Canadian Communities Initiative (SBCCI). Afri-Can Alliance is consistent with the Government of Canada’s long‐standing commitment to empowering Black-Canadians through community development and capacity building programs at the grass-root level.”
As Black communities continue to face great challenges in social employment and Canada’s labor market, Afri-Can Alliance leverages its strong access to strategic partners in the public, private and development sectors to upskill the Black-Canadian workforce and transform socio-economic development via approved Apprenticeship, Training and Professional development programs that align with the current labor market trends.
The Program Director, Bola Badmus said “Canada has recovered more than 80% of the jobs lost at the height of the COVID-19 crisis, but women, particularly women of color, still face far higher unemployment because they tend to work jobs in hard-hit sectors and often care for children or relatives. What we are seeing is an unequal impact of this pandemic on diverse groups of Canadians and these inequities predates COVID… but has definitely been further exasperated by COVID.”
ACAI’s Center of Excellence is the Secretariat Afri-Can Alliance International, a legal-suite administrative structure, designed and being developed by the founder, Bola Badmus to fully subscribe to the principles of equity regardless of national origin, while bridging social harmony amongst Black-Canadian communities across Canada.
He said “Afri-Can Alliance has over the years struggled on increasing service awareness and community engagements, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic, due to lack of office space and adequate technology resources. Thus, our Center of Excellence project aims to renovate and fully-equip the office space with technology-driven equipment and services that would enhance the organization’s communication outreach while availing our administrative members an opportunity to work in an enabling environment and also connect virtually across Canada.”
“Our forecast analysis anticipates a 65% increase in our Membership acquisition rate and 40% improved work efficiency, which would ultimately help validate and achieve our organizational goals.”
