Dominique’s writing style has the flair to spark the mind and become a catalyst for change. The first part of the work focuses on relationships, especially the fragility of love. More than romantic love, this could even be the love of religion. The second part deals with mental health. The author was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, and this made him decided to shine a light on what it feels like and what he went through. The third part deals with black empowerment, and these verses were penned when there was civil unrest. Through these poems, Dominique has tried to show the tough and unrelenting side of black experiences.
“This book brings back poetry for me. It is beautiful simply breathtaking, calming, inspiring, and just a good read. This young author is making his way. I am overall thrilled with my purchase,” said a reader review.
Dominique Gordon grew up in Aurora, Colorado, and was writing poems when still in the 4th grade. In college, he rediscovered his passion for poetry again, and even joined two bands, Stonewall BLVD and Avery Jacob, as a singer and songwriter. Later he decided to focus on poetry. His influences include Langston Hughes, Kanye West, Jack White, Ben Gibbard, and Lauryn Hill.
Dominique’s works are powerful, and the writing is poignant. These verses are the work of a true wordsmith, and the entire collection makes for a thoughtful and deep reflection on some very contemporary and important issues of today.
