LINDA MEANS TO WAIT is a solo show, which runs for around 80 minutes. Linda Kuriloff’s play offers another version of her immigrant family’s journey in the same era that Michelle Obama’s book “Becoming” offers a look into one black family’s life on Chicago’s south side.
Michelle Obama and Kuriloff took the same bus to the same high school from Chicago’s south side and have stories to tell about family, mentorship, and a side of Chicago that belies today’s depiction of their beloved city.
Synopsis
Linda Kuriloff’s One-Woman show portrays how Linda Sithole, a South African-American high school leadership skills trainer working in the Bronx, attempts to conduct a conflict resolution activity with her NYC public school students on a certain morning, only to find her Special Ed high students intent on hearing her story. Realizing that sharing some life experience might be a more effective teaching tool than her planned exercise, Linda then assumes the role of a storyteller and the journey begins! Linda portrays 20 different childhood characters to get the kids to understand her family’s cultural traditions, Chicago’s racial divide, and the intersections they all share as urban dwellers.
The tale leads both facilitator and students through song, dance, laughter, and tears as they gain a greater understanding of each other, their neighbors, and community responsibility.
The show promises to be thrill.
