Coral Gables, Florida, USA – June 17th, 2017 –
University of Miami Frost School of Music which is a notable school of music having graduated leading musical talents, experienced a remarkable and historical achievement when one of its students represented the institution in a recently concluded New Orleans International Festival plus competition and emerged triumphant with a 2nd place prize. This turned out to be a historical event for the University as it is the first ever achievement received by a student from the Guitar department at the University’s School of Music.
As a victorious moment which has engraved her name in the history of the Musical school, Laura Mazon uses her celebration of victory to empower all upcoming guitarist and female guitarists as she states. “I would like to encourage all the girls in this field that is most of the time male dominated to fight for what they believe in no matter how many NO’s they have to face.”
Given her career path as a musicologist, she envisions music as an art while she explains that “Art is my perspective of life, much more than a means of expression, it is my ultimate form of existence.”
Laura Mazon is a broad and experienced guitarist who is currently a classical guitar performance Master’s student at the Frost School of Music (University of Miami) under the tutelage of Rafael Padron, performing at different venues of the city, and receiving master classes from the Mtros. Benjamin Verdery and Manuel Barrueco. She is an active member of the Florida Guitar Foundation and the Guitar Foundation of America, as well as the American Musicological Society.
