India Visa Eligibility

Indian Visa Eligibility is based on your purpose of visit to India. The Government of India has categorized the eligible and ineligible countries for India visa. The eligible countries for India visa are called “Approved” countries. The ineligible countries for India visa are called “Restricted” countries.

Eligible Countries

To get a tourist visa for India, you will need to be a national of a country in which India has a diplomatic mission. These countries include: Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Belgium, Bhutan, Brazil, Brunei, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Laos, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Maldives, Malta, Mauritius, Mexico, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Vietnam and Yemen Zimbabwe.

However, if you are a citizen of a country that has no diplomatic mission in India, such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Pakistan, Somalia, Sudan and Syria, you can only get a visa at the Indian Missions in your country.

A tourist visa to India requires the passport to have at least 6 months of remaining validity and at least one empty page for the visa stamp. However, the duration of stay in India is 30 days, starting from the day the visa is stamped on the passport. The sole purpose of a tourist visa to India is tourism. Tourist visas to India cannot be converted into any other type of visa, nor is it possible to get an extension of the stay.

Eligibility

e-Visa is a type of visa that allows foreigners to enter India for recreation, sightseeing, visiting friends or relatives, attending a short term yoga program, or receiving medical treatment. This visa is not available to those who were born in Pakistan, or if either of the applicant’s parents or grandparents were born in Pakistan. e-Visa is also not available to holders of diplomatic or official passports.

India VISA-ON-ARRIVAL Eligibility

A Japanese national who is visiting India for business, tourism, conference and medical purposes may be granted a Visa-on-Arrival. However, this facility is not available to the citizens of Japan if the person or either of his / her parents or grandparents (paternal or maternal) was born in, or was permanently resident in Pakistan. Additionally, this facility is not available to holders of Diplomatic/Official passports and UN Passport holders having Japanese nationality.

India Tourist Visa Eligibility

A Tourist visa might be granted to a foreigner whose reason for visiting India is tourism-related such as recreation, sightseeing, or visiting friends or relatives. Another activity that could warrant a Tourist visa is attending a short term yoga programme not exceeding 6 months in duration and not being issued with a certificate/diploma.
