Los Angeles, CA – March 10, 2018 – Celebrating Moscow Ballet’s 25th year of touring North America – Watch ‘THE BOLSHOI’ now: http://bit.ly/2GEwZo0.
To celebrate Moscow Ballet’s 25th year of touring North America, TriCoast Entertainment presents Valery Todorovsky’s (‘Hipsters’, ‘Ottepel’, TV series ‘The Thaw’) Russian coming-of-age ballet film, ‘THE BOLSHOI’.
From Valery Todorovsky Production Company and Marmot Film Studio, ‘THE BOLSHOI’ follows a young, provincial ballerina, Yulia Olshanskaya (Margarita Simonova) who dreams of fulfilling her lifelong dream of performing on the competitive stage of Russia’s renowned Bolshoi Theatre.
In 1993, the Moscow Ballet began to evolve out of the International Glasnost Festival Tours, which consisted of soloists from multiple ballet companies across the Russian federation. Despite the ongoing collapse of the Soviet Union and Cold War, the tours remained popular, especially in America.
It was the ballet’s message of world peace, freedom, and harmony during such a crucial time as one of the first steps toward reconciliation between the United States and Russia in a post war world. For the first time in generations the cultures of East and West experienced each other, and inspired hope for an optimistic future despite the turbulent politics of the era – and the 25 years later, the same remains today.
TriCoast Entertainment’s U.S. representation for ‘THE BOLSHOI’ is a prime example of the collaboration between the two cultures, allowing U.S. audiences to experience Yulia’s rollercoaster of a journey to perform in the prestigious and beautiful Bolshoi Theatre. The experience becomes truly real with the film’s cast of real dancers – Yulia’s character, Margarita Simonova, a Polish National Ballet coryphée, Andrei Sorokin, an Ekaterinberg Ballet principal, and Nicholas LeRiche, former Paris Opéra Ballet étoile.
‘THE BOLSHOI’ also examines the obstacles of career paths, conflicting friendships, and giving second chances. Exemplified through Yulia’s clash with her best friend, Karina, by former Kremlin Ballet dancer, Anna Isaeva (Swan Lake, Arabian Nights) when they compete to land the lead role of ‘Aurora’ for the school’s graduation performance.
25 years later, the Moscow Ballet continues to excite American citizens and sellout in nearly every city on tour, despite the rising tension between the two nations. Hopefully the ballet’s ongoing legacy of peace continues to transcend short-term strife.
Alongside dancers, ‘THE BOLSHOI’ has a cast featuring often award-winning Russian stars including Yulia’s strict but influential mentor, Alisa Freyndlikh, Aleksandr Domogarov (musical: Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde), and Valentina Telishkina.
By popular demand, TriCoast Entertainment has extended the VOD platform for charming, captivating, and graceful Russian ballet film, ‘THE BOLSHOI’.
