Music Beats Cancer, the 501(c)3 nonprofit that raises funds for cancer-fighting solutions, announced the winners of its latest Challenge, an exclusive fundraising contest for independent musicians to honor loved ones who have battled, or continue to battle, cancer.
Music Beats Cancer’s Challenge raised $23,064 total. This money will be used to support biotech innovators who lack the requisite funds to continue advancing badly needed medical innovations for cancer. At the same time, the Challenge offered emerging artists a unique opportunity to align their voices with a worthy cause and reach a broader audience.
Only 43 independent artists from around the world were chosen to participate in the Challenge out of hundreds of hopeful entrants.
The top four artists who raised the most funds above the minimum $1,000 will be featured on a 60-second streaming spot on the iHeartRadio App, with 1.4 million unique listeners per month. The 60-second spots will stream to iHeart listeners in New York City on Alternative, Classic Rock, Country, Hip Hop, R&B, Soft Rock, and Top 40 Pop stations during April and May.
“Independent artists fuel our movement of change in the fight against cancer. They are helping us raise awareness on the importance of innovation for more effective cancer treatment,” says Dr. Mona Jhaveri, founder of Music Beats Cancer.

The winners of the Music Beats Cancer Challenge are:
A Monterey, California singer-songwriter-guitarist Kris Angelis jumped from second to first with a last-minute donation, raising $7,401, the highest amount raised by an independent artist in a Music Beats Cancer Challenge in the nonprofit’s history!
Houston singer-songwriter-guitarist Mark Winters came in second place, raising $7,120, after holding the lead for most of the Challenge.
Northern California lyricist-composer Loot Bryon Smith raised $2,280, which placed him in third.
Sarah Christine from Colorado was the final winner, raising $2,010.

This contest has been operated and owned by Music Beats Cancer and was not an iHeartRadio contest. All rules and regulations of the FCC have been followed. Funds received before or after the competition period are NOT counted towards the Challenge. No donations will be refunded.
