Aïda Yuen Wong, an Asian American designer and professor at Brandeis University, has announced an exciting crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to support the launch of her new jewelry line, ZZZI Jewelry. Inspired by her interest in Asian art and fashion history, ZZZI Jewelry brings the art of Asian calligraphy to everyday life.
The line’s refined collection is made of recycled gold and conflict-free diamonds that take the form of calligraphy. Each piece reflects an interpretation of a historical script type, such as the seal script, clerical script, and running script, and uniquely combines Asian culture, couture, and activism in a way that has not been done before. The first collection received acclaim and seed funding as a winner in the Spark Innovation Competition at Brandeis University.
Realizing that gold and diamond pieces can be cost prohibitive for some consumers, Aïda Yuen Wong also hopes to create a budget-friendly digital collection of approximately ten designs in collaboration with DressX.com, an industry leader in digital fashion and accessories, so everyone can support jewelry and designs with a social purpose.
As an AAPI-owned brand, each piece of ZZZI Jewelry is designed to tell the story of Asian culture and lend a powerful voice to Asian communities that have long been scapegoated and afflicted with racist aggressions. A percentage of each sale will be donated to non-profit organizations supporting antiracism and Asian communities at this crucial time.
