From November 17 to 21, the tenth training course of the CEE Chinese Language Teachers Training Center in ELTE was successfully held in Hungary, with about 80 participants, including local teachers from 10 countries in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) and some Chinese teachers and volunteers from Hungary. At the opening ceremony, video messages were delivered by Prof. Ma Jianfei, Director-General of the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC); and Hankó Balázs Zoltán, Under-Secretary of State for Higher Education, Hungary. The event was attended and addressed by Mr. Chen Kun, Education Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Hungary; Szilas Cecília, former Hungarian Ambassador to China; Dr. Borhy László, Rector of ELTE University; and Dr. Hamar Imre, Vice Rector of ELTE University.
Prof. Ma Jianfei noted that the CEE countries are important countries along the “Belt and Road”, and with the joint efforts of the schools and universities in each country and Chinese language teachers, Chinese language education have yielded fruitful results in CEE. Notably, the Hungarian government has made great contributions to the training of local Chinese teachers and the development of Chinese language teaching by providing special funding for the construction of the “Central and Eastern European Chinese Language Teachers Training Center (CEE Chinese Language Teachers Training Center)”. CLEC is ready to work with governments, educational institutions, and Chinese language teachers to build a new pattern of high-quality development of Chinese language education in CEE countries, and make new contributions to advancing a new stage of friendly and cooperative relations between China and CEE countries, as well as to promoting language and cultural exchange.
Hankó Balázs Zoltán said that since the Hungarian government implemented the “Opening to the East” diplomacy, the relations between Hungary and China have been deepening and developing in the fields of economy, culture, education, science and technology, and the CEE Chinese Language Teachers Training Center has made significant contributions to the development of the friendly relations. It is a very meaningful mission of the Hungarian government to continue to support the construction of training centers and to train the next generation of experts who will promote relations between the CEE countries and China.
Mr. Chen Kun said that since the establishment of the CEE Chinese Language Teachers Training Center, it has provided training for nearly 500 trainees in Central and Eastern Europe and other regions, which has greatly improved the level and quality of Chinese language teaching in these regions. Today, there are an increasing number of people who learn and understand Chinese across Central and Eastern Europe.
According to Szilas Cecília, education affects the future of all people, and the CEE Chinese Language Teachers Training Center established ten years ago has enabled local teachers to expand their knowledge in Chinese language education. Thanks to the support of the Hungarian and Chinese governments, solid foundation has been laid for the future activities of educational institutions in both countries in the field of Chinese language education.
Dr. Borhy László said that the Training Course for Chinese Language Teachers in Central and Eastern Europe is an example of flourishing cross-border cooperation. The teachers who came to the training come from different countries in Europe, but with the same love for Chinese. He sincerely hopes that the CEE Chinese Language Teachers Training Center will serve as a bridge of deepening understanding between China and CEE countries.
The CEE Chinese Language Teachers Training Center was established in cooperation with the CLEC in China and ELTE University in Hungary. This five-day training course is carried out through special lectures, case sharing and seminars for Chinese and foreign teachers to exchange and share ideas on Chinese language teachers’ development and teaching skills’ improvement.
