DOW’S HILL, PICCADILLY, ANTIGUA – Classes at the University of Health Sciences Antigua returned to on-campus classes on May 15, 2023. Classes were previously conducted remotely through live and pre-recorded video due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
Once the world started returning to pre-pandemic standards, classes continued to be held online since many students wished to learn remotely. Now, since most airline routes have been restored, preclinical medical school students must return to in-person learning.
Shifting back to in-person learning enables UHSA to continue contributing to the local economy of Antigua & Barbuda, as students can engage more with the community. It also allows for a hands-on learning experience that can’t be offered through online classes.
“I am thrilled to return to on-campus learning,” said Dr. Adedayo Akande, Chairman and President of UHSA. “During the absence of students on campus, we greatly emphasized renovating our facilities to ensure a positive return. We aspire for this return to reintroduce Antigua to the valuable contributions the university has made over the past four decades.”
Because of UHSA’s curriculum and international partnerships, students pursuing medicine through their program will be eligible to become licensed to practice medicine in the US, Canada, and their home countries. This is something that may not be available at other medical universities.
