A Fascinating and Witty Exploration of Women’s History and Society by Jerry Schaefer

A Fascinating and Witty Exploration of Women's History and Society by Jerry Schaefer

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Author Jerry Schaefer’s Women: Down Through the Ages, How Lies Have Shaped Our Lives thrills readers about the tragedy and history of women over time. He describes his work as a capsule summary of civilization under men’s thumbprints.

Schaefer’s book is packed with information about women in history as well as an overview of women’s experiences through the ages. It is both a light-hearted and a dynamic read. The book is about the history of women’s position and their role in society. The descriptions in each chapter are well-explained, vivid, and realistic, followed by thoughtful reflections.

Though satirical and humorous, it investigates how society treats women while also probing their position at different points in history. It covers women’s footprint and their treatment in history from the Holy Roman Empire to today. It looks at the Middle Ages when Joan of Arc donned men’s armor to defeat the English, to the Witches of Salem, and to women in the 1800’s who would bind their waists to obtain the desired hour-glass figure.

Throughout history, women have had vastly different experiences at different times. They headed monasteries for both men and women in the early Middle Ages and they were priestesses and empresses in ancient Egypt. At the other extreme, they were not considered persons for most of recorded history, inferior to men.

Women: Down Through the Ages, How Lies Have Shaped Our Lives is a guaranteed hit and will fascinate, engage (and maybe enrage) readers till the very end.
