Rosenquist shares that the story was inspired by author, Ray Bradbury

Author, GC Rosenquist, releases his 13th book, Uncle Zwizzler’s Circus Galaxica: The Greatest Show in the Galaxy, published by RockHill Publishing.

Rosenquist, who resides in Illinois with his wife, has published 12 books, primarily science fiction. Among them are a humorous biography of growing up in Round Lake Beach, Illinois, a horror story, a book of poetry, a children’s picture book, and two books of high literature. The new work is categorized by Rosenquist as science fiction/fantasy.

The plot of Uncle Zwizzler’s Circus Galaxica: The Greatest Show in the Galaxy revolves around lead character, Speck, who stows away aboard the famed Circus Galaxica, a space-traveling circus of especially talented aliens to try find his mother, who abandon him the year before. What Speck finds instead are some dark truths about life and growing up, but he also finds solace, love, and security with his new family of aliens!

Rosenquist credits his inspiration to author, Ray Bradbury.

“I was reading Something Wicked This Way Comes and wondered what if I reversed the story or expanded upon it? Placing it in another galaxy with great alien characters, the reader can associate themselves with. I think it came out better than I expected partly because I love the characters so much,” he said.

Ideally, Rosenquist hopes that readers connect with the characters and enjoy the story.

“I hope readers take away a little tolerance of other people and lose themselves in the story. If I made them forget the real world for a while, I succeeded in what I was trying to do,” said Rosenquist.

Rosenquist has a long history of creating stories. He recalled back as early as 5th grade at Beach Elementary School, he would spend the Sustained Silent Reading Hour writing funny articles in a fake newspaper on big blue construction paper tied with pink yarn. His “Blue News” were a success with classmates.

It wasn’t until 1980 in high school, he and a friend worked in his basement creating Adventure Stories, Inc. Writing stories based on Marvel Comics superheroes was part of his creative learning process.

As an adult, Rosenquist studied poetry and writing under Paulette Roeske at the College of Lake County in Grayslake, Illinois. He also has a grown son from a previous marriage who was the inspiration for his book, Firefighter 2070 based on his experience on becoming a firefighter.

His favorite authors include Mark Twain, Ernest Hemingway, Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, and Anton Chekhov.
