Dehesa School Takes Measures to Help Students Before Getting Behind in Math and Reading with Intervention Specialists

Many schools around the United States are taking action to improve scores, skills, and behaviors in their schools. One approach that seems to be popular across the board is intervention. Intervention programs exist to identify issues or struggles students might have before they become something of huge negative consequence in that student’s life. Many schools are developing their own programs to ensure every student gets the chance they deserve at the best educational experience and have the tools they need to find success, even in areas they struggle in.

Dehesa School is making strides in reading and math skills intervention on their campus. Housing students in Kindergarten through eighth grade, Dehesa students have a wide variety of needs and abilities, and reading and math intervention is a way for teachers to feel confident that every individual child within their classroom is making progress in those two vital subjects.

At Dehesa School, two teachers, one specializing in math and the other in reading, are on campus full-time to support the other Kindergarten through eighth grade teachers on campus. These two math and reading intervention specialists are on site daily to teach small group instruction to struggling students. Specific focus is given to students who are English language learners, who might need extra attention as they are still developing their English language skills.

The intervention specialists at Dehesa are a huge benefit to not only the students’ learning, but also to the teachers. Teachers are able to continue will teaching their class as a whole while students who may be struggling are able to receive extra instruction based on their specific needs in a subject. The math and reading intervention specialists at Dehesa also bring the most current and innovative pedagogy to the table to make sure Dehesa students are on top of their game!
