January 07, 2021 – Sigma Chi Psi Sorority the first collegiate sorority that provides a sisterhood for online students attending accredited online universities.
Serving and educating students is the call of the hour, especially in this post-pandemic difficult time. With this in mind, Sigma online sorority started working for women pursuing studies online.
Incorporated in late 2019, it is a privately-owned non-profit organization founded by two collegiate women Hildra Anna Jeanetta Starks and Stephanie Robinson. It aims to provide sisterhood for those who are attending online classes at accredited colleges, universities, and global campuses.
Online classes often result in boredom and isolation, particularly when the classes do not include extra-curricular activities. But the existing sororities are not extending Greek chapters to the students studying online. This prompted the incorporation of the sorority.
Despite some temporary halt, because of the COVID-19 responses, the sorority started its first chapter at Strayer University in October 2020. It is supporting members through its various academic, careers, coaching, social, and many more opportunities.
“Women are the victim of gender inequality. They are deprived of facilities that they should automatically have. We are committed to provide sisterhood and serve communities through our philanthropic services. Scholarships are also available to our members. We stand for intellectual growth and success of the members and offer a host of assistances,” stated the co-founder. “Online students are plenty in number. They belong to all categories including wives, mothers, employees, and are continuing online studies for climbing to the top. Naturally, they deserve a genuine bond with peers,” she further added.
In this male-dominated world, women are forced to compete and maintain their feminine qualities at the same time. So they need sisterhood and gender socialization for deep emotional connections. It is like a big family and very empowering. Besides providing academic help, Sigma Chi Psi online sorority helps to build leadership qualities and help to develop their sense of belonging. It turns them into their best to contribute to society and the world as a whole.
Sigma Chi Psi Sorority accepts members from across the United States and abroad. First-term students, undergraduates, graduates, and alumnae can apply for membership.
